A project undertaken without the services of a building professional is a project doomed.Over 25 years ago the founder of Future Dimensions, Warren Crossley, embarked on a career in the construction industry starting out as a trainee estimator in the family run business.

As a result of having worked as an Estimator, Project Manager, Commercial Manager, Quantity Surveyor and Managing Surveyor on various projects throughout the UK, Future Dimensions was set up with the key focus on providing client satisfaction through focused and professional dedication to each project and by offering enhanced value for money while achieving the required standards and quality that one would expect.

As quantity surveyors we are able to manage all costs relating to your building project, from the initial calculations to the final figures; while minimising the costs of the project. We can assist either the client or the contractor and are usually involved in a project from the outset, preparing estimates and costs of the work. While the project is in progress we keep track of any variations to the contract that may affect costs and create reports to show profitability. We are also able to assist with Procurement, Tendering and Account Resolution & Debt Recovery

Friends of Friendless Churches was set up in 1957 to save disused but beautiful old places of worship of architectural and historical interest from demolition, decay and unsympathetic conversion. It is an independent, non-denominational charity which cares for 60 redundant places of worship across England and Wales, and has helped hundreds more.

Over the centuries, churches have fallen out of use for many reasons. But we believe that these buildings represent the spiritual and artistic investment of generations, that they belong to all of us, and should be preserved for the future. We currently care for 60 places of worship in England and Wales

Foster & Pearson was founded in 1841 by horticultural buildings manufacturer Robert Foster and nurseryman John Pearson. It soon acquired an enviable reputation as the leading manufacturer of top quality glasshouses and coldframes – a position it has retained to this day.

By popular demand, Foster & Pearson was re-established in Sussex in 2009 by Robert Jameson, who has a background in agricultural engineering and rural estate management. The unique offerings of today’s company are the provision of new glasshouses precisely created to the original Victorian designs, and the expert restoration of existing buildings.

Additional services include design, and the supply of heating, lighting, staging and other internal fittings.

The Folly Fellowship was founded in 1988 as a pressure group to protect, preserve, and promote follies, grottoes & garden buildings. At this time, many follies were in a ruinous condition (although some were built that way) and the genre was largely an historic one that we felt worth preserving. However, since that time, there has been an increasing awareness of the importance of these buildings to our landscapes. Many have been restored, and several have been completely rebuilt with local support. Better still, some individuals with imagination and the tenacity to fight the planning process, have begun to build new follies. The rise in popularity of television building programmes has encouraged people to try and squeeze something a little unusual in their back gardens. Follies are no longer the preserve of architectural historians and the very rich. If you’d like to find out more, join us, and be part of this group who celebrate this particular branch of architecture that loves to break the rules of what is normal in buildings.

Note that apart from encouraging you to join the Folly Fellowship, this site is not about selling you anything – it is intended as a resource to enable you to find out more about the fascinating subject. So if you are writing a thesis on garden architecture, looking for an architect to design you a folly, or looking for ideas to build your own folly, dig in, there’s plenty of inspiration here.

Tim Floyd Tim Floyd MSc MRICS - Professionally, I started out in civil engineering – surveying for road and pipeline construction. Thoroughly disillusioned, I took a relatively early hiatus, and over a number of years travelled widely throughout Russia, China and SE Asia, regularly visiting the most extraordinary buildings, returning periodically to generate funds through building work in UK and France.

In 1991 I found myself on the roof of one of the temples at the Angkor Wat Complex in Cambodia (long story). Below me, a couple of French surveyors were recording the structure, as the area had recently been made relatively safe and international funding made available for conservation. This was my ‘light bulb’ moment and I subsequently completed a BSc and MSc in Building Conservation Technology and Architectural Materials Science.

I later worked with Brian Ridout at Ridout Associates as a building conservation scientist and surveyor for nearly 7 years. During this time I was lucky enough to work with various high profile buildings, both secular and ecclesiastical and became chartered via the ‘Building surveying research’ pathway at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Whenever I can find the time, I love: to cycle (cotton shirt and shorts, not lycra and lid), to read, to watch films, rugby and South Park on TV and walk our dog Frank the sprocker.

Floorteq Ltd is a small, family-owned business, based in Hampshire specialising in the installation, repair, maintenance and resurfacing of both natural wood and Granwood floors.

Buildings of historic interest demand a unique and tailored approach to maintenance and restoration. A professionally restored hardwood floor helps to enhance and showcase a building’s architectural splendor and with correct maintenance and care will last for decades.

It is common to find hardwood floors which have been neglected because they are often considered beyond restoration but, with a sympathetic approach and an eye for detail, they can generally be reinstated to their former glory.

The Federation of Traditional Metal Roofing Contractors (FTMRC) was formed in 2006 and today consists of specialist contractors who are engaged at the Vanguard of the supported metal roofing business, installing traditional metal roofing in aluminium, copper, galvanised steel, stainless steel and zinc. The Federation is also supported by Associate members providing materials and ancillary services.

The Federation is directed by a Chairman and Council elected from the membership who regularly meet to endorse and maintain the high technical standards of the fully supported metal roofing Industry, with day to day operations conducted by its secretariat and General Manager based in East Grinstead, West Sussex.

There are other hard metal contractors that engage in unsupported “longstrip” industrial metal roofing and cladding, however FTMRC members are focused on traditional metal roof detailing and installation, demanding higher craft skills and knowledge. As well as the heritage sector, there is increasing demand for the knowledge and skills of FTMRC members, with modern architectural design fashion attracted by the wide variety of colours and finishes available, especially in the zinc product range.
