Civic Voice works to make the places where everyone lives more attractive, enjoyable and distinctive. We speak up for civic societies and local communities across England. We promote civic pride. We are the national charity for the civic movement and have a strong local presence. We want to build stronger, more active, and more engaged communities through our work. We aspire to have a nation of active citizens.

Civic Voice believes everyone has the right to live somewhere they can be proud of. Our vision for 2020 is for a civic movement with a strong local presence and an influential national voice. We will be active on the national, city and local stage, working in partnership across the UK. Civic societies will perform at the level of the best today and the civic movement will reach more places and benefit more people from all walks of life. Our reputation and authority will make us the first port of call for anyone seeking to develop, conserve or interpret the quality, beauty and character of our towns, cities and villages or to engage people in shaping their future. We will be a source of civic pride and people will know us for our independence of thought, challenging perspective and positive outlook. We will listen, advise, support and act on behalf of communities everywhere. Communities everywhere will know they have a voice and a champion for the place where they live.

Civic Voice is a small light footed organisation. As a national voice with a strong local presence we make a difference where it matters. You will find us lobbying in Whitehall and Westminster, campaigning with local volunteers, speaking out in the media, undertaking research, building partnerships and promoting civic pride. We support local groups and help them work together. We organise a national convention for the civic movement and give local groups a national voice. We combine community action with sense of place for the benefit of everyone.

Launched in 1959, the Civic Trust Awards is one of the oldest built environment award schemes in Europe. From cafes and churches to housing and hospitals, the Civic Trust has rewarded over 5,500 buildings which have made a difference to local people and their communities by providing the design and facilities which have made better places for people.

The Civic Trust Awards are unique. They recognise the best in the built environment, from architecture to planning, townscape to infrastructure, but they are about so much more than this. They recognise the public realm in its wider context, and our continuing belief that development should be for the benefit of people, those who use it, and those who just pass by.

The winners are not simply architecturally advanced, exciting, innovative or striking. They are also of benefit to their local community, and the organisers strive to ensure that every entry is assessed by a local person, whose role is to canvass and represent the views of the people who use or see the building as part of their environment.

Christopher Howe has sourced antiques from around the globe for their unique provenance, exceptional quality and character for over 30 years. His deep understanding and appreciation for the design and craftsmanship of these antiques has led to a huge inventory of fine old pieces and has informed a diverse and acclaimed collection of new Made by Howe furniture and lighting.

Each new design is hand crafted in Britain by our dedicated band of highly skilled and experienced craftsmen.

Our Bespoke Made by HOWE collection allows our customers the opportunity to commission furniture to suit their interior, adapting the size, fabric and detailing – making each new piece truly personal. Contact our friendly orders team for more information.

Our Pimlico Road showroom and 7,000 sq ft Battersea warehouse could furnish everything from a converted sheep shed or your daughter’s first flat to a complete country house or even a room or two of Hampton Court Palace.

It is our mission to provide our clients with furniture of the very best quality and value for money. We believe good value for money represents the most advantageous combination of cost, quality and sustainability. For us cost takes into account the longevity of the piece. By choosing only the best materials, the best methods and the best craftsmen, our furniture is made to last a lifetime and beyond. We envisage Howe furniture as the antiques of the future.

The Churches Conservation Trust is the national charity protecting churches at risk. We care for the churches vested in us by the Church Commissioners of the Church of England, repairing the damage from sometimes years of neglect, and work with local communities to bring them alive again.

We've saved over 350 special buildings which attract almost 2 million visitors a year. Our buildings are the largest single collection of historic churches in the country. With our help and with your support they are kept open and in use – living once again at the heart of their communities.

The Church Monuments Society is for everyone who is interested in the art of commemoration – early incised stones, medieval effigies, ledgerstones, brasses, modern gravestones. The Society was founded in 1979 to encourage the appreciation, study and conservation of church monuments both in the UK and abroad.

We organise a range of study days and excursions and a biennial symposium in which we can explore in more detail these fascinating relics of the past. We publish an internationally-recognised peer-reviewed journal, Church Monuments, and a more informal newsletter. We are active on social media, with a popular Twitter account (over 3,500 followers) and a regular blog. This website shares news about events, discoveries and new resources.

Tomb carvings are not just about death. They also tell us about the living, their sense of identity, their beliefs and hopes. They are of huge artistic importance. Almost all the surviving medieval British sculpture is in churches, and most of it is in the form of monuments. More recent memorials are a treasure trove of vernacular art – Cornish slate angels, skulls and crossbones, the glorious painted wall monuments of the Welsh marches with their cherubs and swags of fruit and flowers. We encourage understanding of all these monuments, and we work with churches and local communities to help to conserve them and make them more accessible.

Having many years experience in building services engineering, project and financial management, we offer clients comprehensive multidisciplinary support and design service across the range of mechanical, electrical and ancillary building services engineering within the built environment, from design concept through to contract completion.

We provide acoustic design, analysis and problem-solving for building services, including; AV systems and speech reinforcement, environmental, building and industrial acoustics.

"Our design philosophy is one of integration, complementing the built environment, its aesthetics and other design goals by working in partnership with the client design team to create appropriate and holistic solutions"

This philosophy is supported in the design stage by timely and high-quality input which is then followed through by consultants walkabouts during installation.

Having early involvement during the design stage, we believe, is crucial to the success of any project, particularly with respect to energy use, and after completion, our own design post-mortems feed into a process of continuous improvement with the aim to increase customer satisfaction.

Our commitment to high service standards is the same for each project irrespective of size.

Chiltern Open Air Museum in Buckinghamshire was founded by volunteers in 1976, and opened to the public in 1981. The Museum is a charity that rescues threatened historic buildings, which would otherwise be demolished, and rebuilds and preserves them in a traditional Chilterns landscape.

The Museum now has 37 rescued historic buildings that were the workplaces or homes of ordinary people. Every building on site was once somewhere else and either lived in or used by our Chilterns ancestors. By bringing the buildings together at the museum we have built a timeline that helps to tell the story of the Chilterns – a special landscape of rolling chalk hills, traditional crafts and time-honoured ways of life that continue to inspire today.

The Museum also has a working historic farm with livestock that includes sheep, goats, cows and chickens. There are a number of small gardens, cherry orchard and Dig for Victory allotment.

Traditional Chilterns skills and living history are demonstrated through an extensive events and award winning school education program.

The Museum is a popular filming venue and has been used for filming Midsomer Murders, Downton Abbey, Mary Queen of Scots, Grantchester, Horrible Histories and lots more.

The Museum is a charity and receives no government funding. All operating costs are funded via admission charges, Annual Pass sales, private hire, filming, school visits, tea room and catering sales and donations. The Museum is run by a small team of staff and an amazing team of volunteers, fueled by cake and a passion for the Museum and its work.

Chilcroft has established itself as a leading name working at the very heart of the heritage planning and development sector. Professionally accredited and specialising in historic conservation and town planning, we have flourished, overseeing an extensive folio of properties in sensitive landscapes – from brand new mansions, townhouses and commercial real estate, to house extensions, leisure facilities and large outbuildings.

When it comes to the development of historic and listed buildings, Chilcroft is the smarter heritage planning partner to have right by your side. Working for its clients on behalf of the historic environment, rather than the other way round, Chilcroft deals with all matters relating to buildings and new developments involving the historic environment.

It works collaboratively with architects, town planners and surveyors to realise the best designs and negotiate directly with your local planning authority, to unlock the potential in your property.

From new builds to house extensions, townhouses to commercial real estate and leisure facilities to outbuildings, the company's experience, throughout the South-East of England and Central London, places it at the heart of the action and it excels at complex developments.

With a background in planning and conservation, Chilcroft remains open to the possibilities of development and the added value it can bring to any proposal.

The Institute of Horticulture was established in 1984 with the aim of fostering a close relationship between all sectors of professional horticulture throughout the UK and Ireland. On 21st July 2014 the Institute became Chartered and is now known as the Chartered Institute of Horticulture (CIH).

This recognition has enhanced the status of horticulture as a profession which demands high level skills and continuing professional development. Chartered status has also strengthened the influence and therefore the voice of the CIH and all horticulturists with government and policy makers.

The Chartered Institute of Horticulture (CIH) is the only organisation that can truly claim to bring together all professionals involved with every aspect and facet of the diverse industry that is horticulture. There are organisations concerned with such specialist areas but most horticulturists, whatever the career path they have chosen within horticulture, see themselves as part of the broader industry.

Membership of the Institute provides a unifying force that draws together horticulturists who may be pursuing very different career paths and ‘uniting a growing profession’.

Certified - experts in the field with a deep understanding of the significance and historic value of buildings and the philosophy of building conservation
