Established in 1993, Capricorn Eco Timber are an innovative, specialist, eco-friendly Stafford based timber merchant, machinist and sawmiller delivering a bespoke service for claddings, beams, and decking to all parts of the UK and abroad.
Our forte is the supply of locally grown, naturally durable, sustainable, British timber species which can be used for exterior applications without the addition of potentially toxic preservative treatments normally needed to enhance their longevity.
These species grow naturally in the UK and the revenues have a direct benefit to our own UK economy, in addition to having a very small carbon footprint compared to the thousands of miles our previously traditionally supplied imported timbers have to travel.
As part of this ethos we are producing our own version of burnt timber cladding, “Tiga Wood” using British timber species. This technique of burning and charring timber has been used over the centuries by the Vikings and Ancient Britons and in other parts of the world to prolong the longevity of timber and is making a resurgence in modern Britain as a way of increasing the longevity, fire retardancy and aesthetic properties of locally grown British Larch cladding.

The Mumford & Wood story began in 1954 when two woodworking apprentices, Derek Mumford and Dennis Wood, formed their own business partnership, primarily undertaking refurbishment work in and around Essex.
Increasing demand in the following decades saw them move to larger premises in Ongar, Essex and subsequently on to the current base in Tiptree in the 1990s, during which time Mumford & Wood were the first manufacturer in the UK to install an automated window construction line.
With new design possibilities and efficiencies came an increasing focus on the architectural market, and the Conservation™ range was born, with Mumford & Wood producing the first fully factory finished double glazed sash window in the industry, and were also the pioneers of a system for recreating Georgian glazing bar styles.
A skilled and committed workforce form the backbone of this thriving business. A process of continuous upgrades and investment has ensured that increases in output and productivity have been possible, while implementing market-leading technology and innovation that dovetails with maintaining a reputation of quality and service.
Alongside the high-performance Conservation™ range now sits the elegant Classic™ collection of made-to-order timber windows and doors that feature a true glazing bar and slim panel glazing system. For buildings of great architectural significance and importance, the Heritage™ range of single glazed products is achieving its rightful place in some of this country's most famous and much-loved regal buildings.
All manufacturing is undertaken in Tiptree, Essex ensuring a responsible, sustainability ethos with innovation and flair.

A Traditional Agricultural Background - As a business Whippletree has been established for over 20 years. Originally founded in 1989 to handle forestry contracting, it evolved almost organically, into the present specialist supplier of native Oak, with over 75,000 cu. feet of quality timber in stock.
From its start the founder’s traditional Cambridgeshire agricultural background ensured the Company did not confine itself to just harvesting trees, but to replanting them as well. Thousands of trees planted by Whippletree throughout the region testify to the application of responsible forestry practices. The Company has been in the vanguard of the ‘green revolution’from the beginning.
Traceability – Your Guarantee Of Quality - Unlike most merchants, we can guarantee to supply native Oak. Our traceability scheme means we can identify the exact location in the UK from which every batch of timber has come. We insist on buying timber ‘at stump’. This ensures the timber’s quality and confirms its origin. On site each harvested tree is allocated an unique serial number, this is recorded and a product label remains with the timber throughout the processing stages, so we can trace it all the way through to point of sale. This accurate record also enables us to ensure that our on-going replanting is always compensated by our harvesting programme.
