Bulmer bricks are made from the finest London Clays, dug from our seams almost continually since Tudor times. All Bulmer bricks are hand made, using traditional methods of making, drying and are fired in a coal burning, down draught kiln. This helps to give the distinctive finish that blends so well with the originals. The process takes time - something to consider at the project planning stage.

We are a small family business continuing the traditions of brickmaking on this site dating back to the Middle Ages. Our facings and specials can be made with almost any texture, from coarse veined to smooth with some 150 different sizes o facing and a range of over 5000 special shapes, including all standard plinths, squints and copings, and extends to purpose made chimney bricks, terracotta, mullions, jambs, floor bricks, pamments, decorative plaques, garden edgings and a full range of rubbing blocks.

We work on large projects for the National Trust, English Heritage and Historic Royal Palaces, but are just as proud of some of the small private work undertaken by individuals.

Lambs is an established family-owned supplier of fine bricks and natural stone. For five generations, we have been assisting architects, planning and conservation officers, building conservationists, builders, developers, homeowners, and merchants create and restore remarkable buildings.

WHERE TRADITION MEETS TECHNOLOGY- Originally known as WT Lamb, then Lambs Bricks and Arches, today Lambs designs and makes gauged arches, facing bricks and specials at our brickworks in Sussex. In our Sussex quarry we extract natural stone, and design and craft architectural masonry in a number of vernacular finishes.

A SOURCE OF DISTINCTIVE MATERIALS - We are the sole manufacturers of authentic TLB Red Rubbers and Handmade Imperial Rubber Range bricks which are supplied for the restoration of listed buildings and historic properties. We operate the only surviving large quarry for Wealden Sussex Sandstone (also known as Tunbridge Wells Sandstone). And we are the sole suppliers of Port Lime and Port Regent, natural limestones sourced from some of Europe’s finest historic quarries.

COMBINING MANUAL CRAFTSMANSHIP WITH DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY - Members of The Guild of Master Craftsmen, we owe the quality of our products to the honed skills of our red masons and stone masons (some of whom are third-generation craftsmen at Lambs). Although some of our tools and techniques date back to the 16th Century, we use the latest technology in our design processes, enabling us to deliver precise working drawings and 3D visualisations.

H G Matthews is a family run brickworks, producing traditional hand-made and machine-made bricks, in Buckinghamshire England. The business was founded in 1923 by Henry George Matthews and is still run by his decendants today.

Like most industries brickmaking has seen production concentrated in fewer and fewer but much larger factories. Smaller brickworks have closed by the hundred since the second world war. This has led to a sad decline in local character and distinctiveness of buildings, with rustic bricks being replaced by those that are mass produced.

H G Matthews has managed to thrive despite this trend as its consistant service and quality have meant that its bricks have always been in demand. The company has retained its traditional skills and techniques enabling its bricks to be used with confidence in high-end new builds and also in the conservation sector.

The York Handmade Brick Company is based in Alne just North of York and has been making bricks here for over 70 years.
