Since 1928, CPRW has been standing up for the people and places of rural Wales and protecting our unique landscapes. From defending wild spaces from destructive development to creating sustainable rural communities, we are passionate about creating a countryside which works for everyone.

The only independent organisation standing up for rural Wales, our community-based members hold decision-makers to account and ensure that local people get their say. Every day we take action to ensure that the extraordinary beauty of our country is preserved for the next generation – and beyond.

Cambridge Architectural Research Ltd believes it can provide expert advice for practically all questions that arise in relation to buildings and the built environment – especially questions that fall outside the usual professional boundaries.

CAR was set up in 1987 by researchers from the Martin Centre, the research division of Cambridge University’s Department of Architecture. The founders were motivated by seeing that many academic research ideas fail to connect with real world problems where they are needed. CAR’s mission was – and still is – to boost the contribution of research and analysis to the design and management of buildings and the built environment.

The membership of CAR has changed since 1987, but the nature of the organisation remains very much the same. It is an independent consultancy set up as a limited company owned by its members. It operates as a flexible, collaborative, multi-disciplinary group of experts, forming teams to respond to each new project that comes into CAR.

The skills within CAR are diverse. We have classified them under four service areas – Buildings & Cities, Structures, Energy and Risk. But we know that every project is different and the most interesting projects often cut across the categories. Working with CAR associates and a network of specialists who collaborate on a project-by-project basis, CAR’s project teams bring together the particular mix of skills required for each project.

We provide planning advice to a wide range of clients including landowners, businesses, developers, community groups and local authorities.

Preparation of a planning application is key.

A planning application should include sufficient level of detail to enable the decision maker to determine the application positively . Our team of planners prepare and submit planning applications on behalf of clients presenting a robust case for the application and identifying the key considerations, giving you the very best chance of success.

Early advice is essential and often more cost-effective. The earlier that we can be involved, the better. This enables us to assess the case from the outset, guiding the planning application preparation process, including undertaking pre-application discussions.

Our planners have the knowledge and experience to successfully negotiate the planning application process to achieve the best outcomes for our clients. We are often contacted by clients who have submitted their first application and had planning permission refused. By bringing us in at the earliest possible stage, you can maximise your chance of success and in most instances, avoid the need for appeals altogether. However, if you are already at the appeal stage and would like our help, go to appeals for more information.

Established in 1988 in Berkshire, cjl designs has been involved in a large number of restoration projects in England and Wales. We have also designed and made new stained glass for private commissions and exhibited stainless steel and glass sculptures in a number of venues. Having recently moved our studio from Frome to West Pennard, near Glastonbury, we offer a professional and personal service for the restoration of existing glass, frames and window furniture.

For the last 25 years we have worked with the same reliable, high quality shot-blasters during the refurbishment process. It is important to use a company who take care to preserve historic metalwork while only removing corrosion and old paint finishes.

We work in collaboration with a local artist blacksmith when needed so adding flexibility to the bespoke service we can offer. This includes designing and building new metal frames and other ferramenta.

We offer condition surveys with recommendations for remedial work; the refurbishment of leaded lights and metal frames, including Crittal type; advice on prevention of water ingress and fitment of protective grilles. Work is undertaken both in situ and in the studio.)

Projects have included: churches within the Oxford, Winchester and Guildford dioceses; the Falkland Islands Chapel, Pangbourne; Roundway Hospital, Devizes; Littlecote House, Hungerford; Worcester Cottage, Brecon; and other listed buildings.

Since it was established, Womersley’s has been providing a wide range of building materials for the refurbishment of historic buildings. However, we soon realised that home improvements in even the most modern houses could benefit from materials that allow walls to breathe and are not a hazard to health. The natural materials we supply for building, plastering, rendering, insulating and decorating your home allow the exchange of water vapour and control the relative humidity of our rooms and benefit our health. The products we sell are for historic building refurbishments and eco-friendly new builds – so they have to meet strict environmental criteria during their production.

World Heritage Sites are places from all around the world that are considered so important for the shared understanding and future of our planet we should look after them forever. There are more than 1100 Sites globally, some are natural like the Great Barrier Reef or the Serengeti, and many are man-made like Stonehenge or the Taj Mahal. World Heritage Sites are identified by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), but looked after locally.

Our Vision is that the United Kingdom will have a coherent approach to World Heritage Sites that is better known and understood, and supported through sustainable funding, so that the Outstanding Universal Values of the Sites can provide inspiration, learning and enjoyment for society and contribute to the UK’s standing in the world.

Our Mission is to raise the profile and secure the future of the UK collection of World Heritage Sites by advocating for support, resources and recognition, facilitating learning and networking, and promoting the Sites and their values.

The UK currently has 33 World Heritage Sites and more sites progressing towards World Heritage Site status. All of them contribute to the story of humankind and our planet.

DBR is a specialist conservation company dealing with the cleaning and repair of historic fabric and the regeneration of historic buildings.

High-quality workmanship, expertise and a dedicated and sensitive approach to the care of buildings are the foundation of our thriving business. Well known for our exemplary in-house craft trades, we are one of the leading conservation specialists in London and the South East of England, working on some of the UK’s most notable landmarks, including Grade listed buildings, scheduled monuments and World Heritage Sites, as well as parochial churches, country estates and modest memorials. Every project we undertake is treated with passion and enthusiasm that is unrivalled in our industry, leaving a lasting impression on our clients and the buildings we care for.

DBR London was established in 1990, to form a highly specialist façade conservation company to tackle the problems of masonry decay in London.

The early years of the business as a specialist masonry contractor quickly gained momentum with a reputation for quality. This resulted in larger projects being awarded, and DBR London evolving into a Principal Contractor, taking charge of entire conservation projects.

In 2008 as the company grew, it became apparent that DBR’s delivery to our clients required an ‘in house ‘roofing division to compliment our ‘in house’ masonry façade specialism, thus providing a complete external envelope repair service. DBR Leadwork was formed to satisfy this need and soon became successful in its own right as a Principal Contractor for roofing projects as well as a partner to DBR London.

In 2011 DBR Conservation was formed in response to a growing requirement for DBR to undertake entire conservation projects both externally and internally. This enabled us to embody the skills of gilders and conservators for work to historic polychrome surfaces and fine objects.

More recently DBRs progression has seen the forming of DBR Southern, which harks back to DBR London’s roots as a specialist masonry contractor.

DBR is also expanding its joinery service to historic buildings along with fire safety improvements in historic building environments following on from our multi million pound fire safety improvement scheme at the Palace of Westminster.

Additionally we have recently launched our Drone Division flying state of the art UAV’s by CAA approved ‘in house’ masonry specialists.

DBR is also expanding its UK operations and our major projects division with landmark conservation projects including the recent award of the multi million pound external conservation of Liberty London.

The whole DBR group continues to recruit specialist crafts to strengthen and expand our skill base along with dedicated and passionate managers whose mission is to provide an exemplary service in the field of historic building conservation, repair and regeneration.

There will be many more chapters in DBRs journey that will ensure our clients will receive a comprehensive service for their historic buildings, and which will continue to provide a ‘go to’ business that ensures quality and care in a skillful and dynamic manner.

Founded in 1986, the Wallpaper History Society provides a unique forum for wallcoverings enthusiasts and professionals alike. The Society, which is a registered charity, celebrates the history, design and social relevance of historic and contemporary wallcoverings and promotes both their study and that of the many trades and professions associated with them. If you are interested in wallcoverings – paper or otherwise – and their contribution to our economic and cultural lives, this is the Society for you!

The Society has three aims:

- To encourage research and disseminate information about all aspects of the design, production and consumption of wallpapers and wallcoverings.
- To foster an awareness of the importance of preserving historic decoration.
- To provide a forum for discussion and a point of contact for the different groups interested in these issues.

Its journal, The Wallpaper History Review is published triennially. In addition, members receive an annual full-colour Newsletter, which provides information about recent discoveries, new publications and relevant events. The Society organises events, including study days, visits to historic houses and archives, occasional conferences and awards an annual research bursary, The Merryl Huxtable Prize
