“Like so many businesses the birth of Catchpole & Rye came about by accident. A cottage we purchased in 1990 featured an old claw foot tub.
The restoration of this bathtub lead me on a merry journey through the salvage yards of Kent and thus ensued a passion for antique sanitary ware and it’s manufacture. I quickly realised there was a forgotten heritage within Britain and set about understanding the origin of these plumbing products and how they were made.”

Catchpole & Rye has been in business for over 30 years, evolving and expanding into what it is today.

In 1999 Tony and his wife, Elaine, bought what was a run-down Dairy farm in Kent with a vision to turn it into the epicentre and manufacturing base for the business they were just starting. From what was old cattle sheds and agricultural outhouses, today stands a collection of fully renovated buildings and an impressive Showroom totally over 40,000 sq ft.

Continuing to expand, the site also had a new warehouse erected just last year to house our new brass foundry, due to be installed sometime next year.

A nineteenth-century farmhouse in Katonah, NY, is home to Barbara Israel Garden Antiques' impressive array of period ornament from Europe, America, and Asia. The formal gardens surrounding the house are the perfect setting for our collection of fountains, statues, sundials, urns and gate pier finials, furniture, fencing, and wellheads dating from the fifteenth through the early twentieth centuries. Barbara Israel Garden Antiques works closely with landscape architects, designers, and private clients to find the ideal object for each individual garden. While the primary focus is on classical ornament, we endeavor to satisfy all of our clients' request--from the most traditional to the more unexpected. With this intent, our inventory also features other significant ornamental trends including rustic furniture, Art Moderne/Art Deco pieces, nineteenth-century revival style objects and eclectic items from the monumental focal piece to the perfect small flourish. We participate in four major antiques shows each year: The Winter Antiques Show in January, The Philadelphia Antiques & Art Show in late April, the Garden Art & Antiques Fair at the New York Botanical Garden in early May, and The Delaware Antiques Show in early November.

About Barbara - Barbara Frelinghuysen Israel founded Barbara Israel Garden Antiques in 1985, after a serendipitous purchase of a large collection of estate statuary led her down the garden antiques path. More than 20 years and hundreds of exquisite objects later, Barbara is recognized as an authority on the subject. Barbara's book, Antique Garden Ornament: Two Centuries of American Taste (Harry N. Abrams, Inc., 1999), is the definitive work in the field. Barbara has served as a consultant to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for its collection of nineteenth-century cast iron, and sold pieces to the Winterthur Museum, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Baltimore Museum of Art, as well as to many important private collectors. As an active board member of Historic Hudson Valley, she is helping to preserve landmark properties and their antique garden ornaments. Barbara Israel Garden Antiques has been featured in The New York Times, House & Garden, The Robb Report, The Baltimore Sun, and Martha Stewart Living, among others, and has appeared on Good Morning America, Sunday Morning Today, A&E's The Incurable Collector, and Antiques Roadshow FYI.

Over the last 25 years, BCA Matériaux Anciens has become the specialist firm to turn to for antique materials and antique salvage from France. Although most is destined for projects in France we also export all over the world. Top quality projects across France, Europe and around the world feature our reclaimed wood flooring – antique reclaimed parquet and floorboards, stone flooring and paving, antique French fireplaces, reclaimed cobbles, reclaimed terra-cotta tiles and bricks, roof tiles, architectural ironwork, fountains, stone troughs and pools, gateway pillars, some reproduction items, and other truly reclaimed French building materials. Keen to conserve and perpetuate the heritage of France, we are specialists in natural materials such as antique French oak and limestone, with authentic and noble surfaces that gain patina over time.

French building materials - We present all on our stock website kept up to date daily by our own staff. To renovate or restore complete properties, or room by room, the charm and patina of the old is so authentic compared to new materials. The authenticity of the products and their patina enable you to travel through eras that marked the history of France. Certain items with decorative detail have the required « passport » that we apply for at France’s Ministère de la Culture, enabling traceability and thereby authorizing export. Typical project-based orders are combinations of antique products such as oak beams, French limestone fireplaces, reclaimed stone flooring like interior flooring and exterior paving and steps, with even roof tiles and walling stone on the most complete project packages.

Antique building materials and their patina - Wood, stone and terra-cotta stay in fashion, and obtain their natural patinas over time. Our team of qualified professionals is sensitive to this and select the best reclaimed building materials in order to offer authentic products of high quality. For example floors in terra-cotta, marble or stone last for decades (and centuries), are durable assets whilst gaining patina and without requiring periodic replacement, whilst most modern industrial floors age badly, can « go out of fashion » and get replaced in the most un-ecological manner. Antique materials are often particularly robust and last for lifetimes inside and outside, well integrated into the project environment and looking beautiful. Our garden features find new locations in parks and gardens. With the largest stocks of antique reclaimed materials in France at our two major premises (with showrooms and stockyards) in North-West France, we can respond rapidly to your needs. BCA is recognized as the specialist for supplying noble authentic materials. Through our partnerships with local, national and international carriers, we can facilitate deliveries to projects across France, and shipping around the world.

Saving tropical timber for future generations - Ashwells Reclaimed Timber is the UK’s leading tropical timber reclamation specialist. From our timber yard and mill in Essex, we reclaim tropical hardwoods such as Greenheart, Jarrah, and Keruing; repurposing the timber for future use in an FSC® certified process that prevents further deforestation, saves energy and mineral resources, and protects architectural history.

“The rainforest is disappearing, fast. That’s why we’re collaborating with civil engineering contractors and landscape architects, saving tropical timber, and enabling a more sustainable built environment.”

Designing strikingly distinctive interior pieces Antiques by Design use a combination of reclaimed items, antiques and salvaged materials to create beautiful furnishings. Founder and designer Guy Chenevix-Trench has always had a deep appreciation for the craftsmanship of antique pieces, which he combines with his contemporary designs to create real statement pieces; such as salvaged window frame mirrors and handcrafted lighting created from reclaimed sporting and musical memorabilia, and other unusual items.

As well Antiques by Design’s own reworked pieces they stock a good selection of antique furniture and also offer a bespoke service of sourcing and designing to meet specific briefs, which is especially tailored to interior designers and the hospitality sector.

After 35 years in the Reclaimed Wood industry, we know a lot about old and antique timber. In our 13,000 sq. ft. workshops we receive and restore huge stocks of reclaimed timber, including original period floorboards, 12 species of parquet woodblock, and our signature reclaimed wide oak planking. We have in-house kilns and the capability to fully engineer our boards so that all our floors - even those made from unique antique timber - can be installed over an under-floor heating system or floated on top of concrete sub-floors.

We specialise in retaining timeworn surfaces. The aged patina and texture evident in old, reclaimed floors, offers designers a softer, more lived-in effect, that works with older buildings or indeed adds to many contemporary spaces. We achieve this by hand DA sanding, each board to retain the wear and character that is unique to it and all antique and reclaimed wood.

Sourcing the right wood - Our source of material for domestic renovation is UK demolition. We also actively pursue the purchase of reclaimed options from Spain, France, Belgium, Turkey, Eastern Europe and the United States.

We target our acquisition for correct timber type, correct timber grade, and dimensional suitability.

In-depth knowledge - Our in-depth knowledge of UK building programmes from the early 18th century right up to the 50’s and 60’s means our timber flooring specialists can advise on suitability and application.

As specialists in reclaimed flooring and timber, we supply local, national and international demands. Large samples of our range of reclaimed and newly produced flooring can be viewed at our gallery.

The beauty of reclaimed wood - With the rise in mass produced veneer-based mainstream flooring products from the Far East, our clients are enthusiastic in their pursuit of more selective and interesting proposals.

The benefits of using reclaimed timber and flooring are as wide and variable as the stock available. Ecological and environmental concerns recommend its use, whilst in restoration work it is often demanded. More and more discerning clients are attracted by the appeal of using reclaimed timber with its character, patination and depth of colour, to benefit traditional or contemporary design schemes.
Speak to an expert

Our staff freely advise on all technical issues, including application, performance, sub-floor suitability, installation and finishing.

We welcome clients by appointment to the new complex, and London to Ashford is 16 minutes via the high speed rail link, plus we can offer collection and return from the station.

Antique Buildings Ltd is an award winning planning and architectural consultancy, celebrated for its commitment to conservation and design. The salvage yard at Antique Buildings carries an immense stock of ancient oak beams - protected from the weather in their 100ft by 50ft storage barn. Wide oak floorboards (suitable for laying over underfloor heating) are a particular speciality - whole floors, laid in the various re-erected buildings, are open for viewing. The salvage yard also offers diverse stocks of handmade bricks, roof and floor tiles, stone paving and unusual heritage items.

The company's name 'Antique Buildings Ltd' was chosen back in 1983 to reflect the company's specialisation in saving ancient timber framed buildings; there are always a number of complete ancient barn, cartshed and granary frames in stock ready for re-erection. The frames have been drawn, photographed and numbered before being carefully dismantled for re-erection. Should you need help with design or re-erection. Managing Director, Peter Barker, works on the ethos that there is a use for everything - visitors will leave with inspiration from examples of innovative reuse.

Managed by The Heritage Alliance and the Architectural Heritage Fund, the Heritage Funding Directory is a free guide to financial support for anyone undertaking UK related heritage projects. This is a useful starting point for navigating funding sources in the sector and it is recommended that you visit the funder’s website directly to explore the latest information.

Thanks to support from the Historic Houses Foundation, The Heritage Alliance and The Architectural Heritage Fund combined their funding directories to provide around 400 updated listings detailing sources of grants from trusts and foundations, as well as organisations offering loan finance, awards, scholarships and other ‘in kind’ resources.

The Directory’s entries cover historic buildings, landscapes, parks and gardens, churchyards and cemeteries, industrial heritage, archives, historic churches, museums, archaeology, the environmental, heritage skills, conservation and more.

Heritage Alliance member, Kate Pugh, also created a new list of around 100 grants and funding sources that are available for heritage projects outside of the UK in the International Funding Directory, which will soon be integrated into the main Heritage Funding Directory.
