We are design-led and research-orientated. We are critical about what we do. But we have lots of fun as we love the challenge of the craft of building.
We undertake commissions both small and large and specialise in projects that respond creatively to their context.
We work with an interdisciplinary network of makers, builders, and designers leading to innovative collaborations.
We are committed to design, detailing and materiality. Attention to detail has always been our lens, and our love for design and building sites is the engine.
We take the term collaboration seriously. Architecture studios have a social responsibility to the public, a technical responsibility to the structure and an intellectual responsibility

As an architect, I’m passionate about old buildings and helping their owners keep them fit for modern living and modern use. I know what it’s like for small congregations to try to keep up with maintaining their church buildings without forgetting their mission – and I love to be involved with them. I’m also concerned about green issues and one of my new projects is the design and build of a small private chapel in straw‐bale construction with a reciprocal framed roof. I’ve also got a few projects and potential projects in London – all small‐scale extensions for homeowners on a budget.
Setting up on my own at the age when many people retire is a new adventure. I’ve worked with my late husband in our partnership Robert and Anne Netherwood, done an 8‐year stint with him setting up and running the Home Advisory Service in Dodoma Tanzania, and helped him set up the practice again when we returned to the UK. Changing hats, I was ordained in 1991 and spent 16 years looking after three very rural parishes in North Shropshire. I retired from the parishes when Rob was diagnosed with cancer, and helped him set up Greenspace Architects Ltd with Kevin Slack. I worked freelance for Greenspace until 2015, and now I have my own Chartered Practice – working from home
I’ve been very lucky to have Andy Hales helping me as a freelance assistant for three years until April 2019. Andy recently completed his RIBA Part 2 studies at the College of Alternative Technology in Machynlleth and has taught me a great deal about straw bale construction, hemp-crete insulation and other environmentally friendly building techniques.
I’m a member of the Ecclesiastical Architects and Surveyors Association, the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, and the Green Register, and I’m on the RIBA Conservation Register. In December 2017 I received accreditation from the RIBA as a Conservation Architect.

The ARPL philosophy is to produce buildings to the highest design standards in close consultation with our clients.
Our design is both innovative and sympathetic to the immediate and the broader environment in which they are constructed with an emphasis on sustainability. Each project embraces the unique nature of the client’s needs and the site.
From our base in Ayr the practice carries out projects over a wide geographical area from the Orkneys and the Western Isles to Ireland. Our project experience covers the fields of housing, churches, schools, commercial projects, private houses, community and arts buildings. We have developed particular expertise in contemporary sustainable design, specialist conservation works and design for historically sensitive environments.
Our work has received wide recognition through numerous design and environmental awards presented over the years for our new build and conservation works. Regular success in design competitions adds to the practice portfolio.

Arrol Architects have now been operating for some forty years and throughout that time, our ethos has always been about quality, sustainability and delivery. We believe we have always developed very good working relationships with our clients by obtaining a clear understanding from the outset of the client’s wishes and needs and by careful analysis and attention to detail, produced results that are not only sustainable, but also economically viable and delivered within the required timescales.
Working within the historic environment has always been our core business, not only in terms of conserving buildings, but also producing high quality new build design.
Care of the environment is also high on our agenda and we strive with all our projects to come up with sustainable solutions, not solely in terms of maintaining the health and wellbeing of people by the careful selection of natural recyclable products, but also providing economic benefit by incorporating renewable energies thus reducing the carbon footprint.
We operate a studio culture where the whole team works well together in sharing problems, coming up with solutions, developing ideas and innovative design. We actively encourage staff to develop their knowledge and experience and hold regular CPD events in the office.
All our projects are carefully managed within the office to ensure a quality product is delivered. We are ISO 9001: 2015 accredited.

An international architectural charity and NGO which aims to improve health, livelihood and resilience to disasters in the countries it works. Projects include the development of better housing, safe school buildings and effective clinics and hospitals, for example.
Article 25 has more than 85 projects in 34 countries, making it the largest architectural NGO in the world. Its projects are delivered with in-country partners to ensure that local knowledge and relationships are maximised, and that projects are sustainable even after our involvement has ended.
The name derives from Article 25 of the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights which states that everyone has the right to adequate and dignified shelter.

The ACA is not a regulatory body, but provides an independent voice for and support to architectural practices that promotes and enables high standards in practice, within the membership. Membership is free and open to registered architects practicing on their own either alone or in partnership or as a Director of a company whose business consists wholly or mainly of an Architects’ practice or an allied field.
The principal purpose of the ACA is to represent and support architects in their resolve to provide excellence in practice. The Association lobbies and consults with Government and major industry bodies, arranges events and provides other services in support of this goal.
The ACA was founded in 1973 by former presidents of the RIBA. It has stood firm for quality in architecture and reliability of service in private practice ever since and was created at a time when there was no organisation in existence, dedicated specifically to the interests of private practitioners.
The original dedication still holds true and the maintenance of a collective voice on important and topical matters related to the role and standing of consultant architects remains the single most important benefit offered to ACA members today.
The ACA believes that it is vitally important that those who choose to practise architecture have an effective voice to represent their interests whether through the press, parliament or in the eyes of the public.
If you are an architect interested in having an effective voice and prompt representation on issues that affect you and your practice, ACA is uniquely positioned to work on your behalf.

Bates Zambelli Chartered Architects make high quality, innovative, thought-provoking buildings. We offer urban, interior and landscape design as well architecture. Our continued involvement in university teaching and research and our extensive experience in practice enable us to approach design in a rounded, informed and considered manner. Key to that approach, we believe, is a close and sustained dialogue with each client, a dialogue that we look to begin at the earliest stage of a project and seek to continue long after completion.
Bates Zambelli Chartered Architects, is the central part of Bates Zambelli Limited, a company that offers many professional building procurement services under the trading styles of BZ Consulting and BZ Conservation. These include planning consultancy, historic building conservation and repair, development advice, party wall negotiations and health and safety CDM co-ordination. The breadth of services we offer not only provide the convenience and economies of a one stop shop for our clients but their multiple perspectives can enable us to find procurement solutions that may not otherwise be apparent.
Bates Zambelli Chartered Architects incorporated in 2000, arising from the Practice STS Bates Architects founded in 1991. Sherry Bates and Alessandro Zambelli are its sole and founding directors. Both Sherry and Alessandro are registered with the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
BZ Conservation - BZ Conservation is the dedicated historic buildings division of Bates Zambelli Limited, a firm of Chartered Architects incorporated in 2000 and arising from STS Bates Architects, a practice founded in 1991. Sherry Bates and Alessandro Zambelli are the sole and founding directors of Bates Zambelli Limited. Sherry is an inspecting architect for the Oxford and St Albans dioceses. He is also an associate member of the Ecclesiastical Architect's and Surveyors Association (EASA).
As a practice, Bates Zambelli is interested in architecture as a cultural endeavour as much as a profession. Both principals have a background in teaching architecture at university and are interested in the history and theory of the subject. We remain engaged in current debates relating to architectural theory and practice. Although the design of new buildings lies at the core of what we do, it is our architectural position that building conservation skills are vital to the architect in the UK today, as so much new building involves historic buildings or sites adjacent to them. Moreover historic buildings and building techniques have much to teach us that is relevant to new design work.

Carden & Godfrey Architects was established in 1946, with projects centred on post-war reconstruction, and we continue to specialise in all aspects of conservation and historic building work, including sensitive alterations and extensions in traditional and contemporary design and new buildings including on historically sensitive sites. We are passionate about good design, high quality detailing and finding sustainable, bespoke solutions to keeping existing and historic buildings in good repair and use.
We are based in Central London and work primarily in London and the Home Counties as well as in Beverley.
We are a RIBA Chartered Practice and several members of our team are Architects Accredited in Building Conservation (AABC).
In all our projects we try to nurture a studio-based approach to sharing work and discussing new designs in an open forum. This is a valuable way of exchanging and developing ideas and experience and sharpens our focus on good architecture and building conservation as products of well-informed design and co-operation across the board.

Caroe & Partners was founded in 1884 by W.D.Caröe. Caröe (1857-1938) was a major figure in the Arts and Crafts Movement; he was architect to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners from 1895 until his death and was architect to numerous ecclesiastical buildings including St Davids and Durham Cathedrals, and Tewkesbury and Romsey Abbeys.
Caröe was not only an architect of striking originality and pioneer of building conservation, but also a distinguished designer of furniture, embroidery, metalwork and sculpture.
The rich legacy of the work of W.D. Caröe has never been of greater relevance. The revival of interest in architecture of the Edwardian period and of the 1920s and 1930s has provoked a re-evaluation of the work of those architects, like Caröe, who stood apart from the International Modern Movement to produce 'traditional' architecture.
