DESCRIPTION:This three hour workshop explores some of the common issues affecting historic brickwork that homeowners may need to address when maintaining and repairing their properties. Includes discussion, demonstrations and examination of brickwork buildings at The Historic Dockyard, Chatham\n\nAbout the tutor - Charles Reilly is a highly experienced craftsman with a passion for repairing heritage brick buildings. As the managing director of Georgian Brickwork, Charles leads a small team of specialist bricklayers in Kent. Georgian Brickwork focuses on using traditional methods and materials to repair and restore listed and period properties. Charles started developing his training programme in 2016 to ensure that his knowledge and skills are passed on to the next generation of bricklayers. Since re-locating his training workshop to the The Historic Dockyard he has expanded the programme to include events for homeowners and heritage enthusiasts.\n \nWho is this course for? - This course is for anyone who wants to find out more about looking after and repairing historic brick built properties using traditional methods and materials. The focus of this session is on informing and awareness raising. It includes a demonstration of practical skills with opportunities to ask questions and discuss problems.\n\nSessions for heritage professionals, homeowners and others with an interest in the conservation of heritage brickwork take place in groups of between 5/10 depending on the topic.\nWhat do I need to bring with me?\n\nYou need to:\n\n    - Wear practical comfortable clothes\n    - Wear protective footwear\n    - Bring a notepad and pen -if you want to make notes\n    \nAfterwards it will be possible to stay on and eat lunch, available to buy at one of The Historic Dockyard eateries. Or you can bring your own lunch and there are outdoor spaces to eat such as the Commissioner’s Garden or the Tennis Court Lawn.
